Giant Hermit Crab found off Beach!

During a routine dive on our beach this giant hermit crab was found at a depth of 15-20 feet, under.  The diver reported seeing several other large hermit crabs along with red rock crabs, golf balls, and buoy anchors.

Cat Uses Advanced Tactics on Local Birds

This cat was recently caught in the act of raiding a local bird house.  It seems that the warmer weather has inspired this cat to use an advanced approach in the age old pursuit of the bird. Photo was provided by Cristina Roe.

Please send photos of activities on the beach!

Flying boat on our beach in 1994!
Does anyone read this?  This is a plea for neighbors to send me photos of activities occurring on our beach.  I make this request every year but get few if any responses.  Please send me the photo of YOUR activity or event.  Many may not realize that we have had pigs roasted and seafood bakes on this beach. We have no pictures to show. Flying boats and float planes have stopped in for a visit!  We had a tree fall on a power line starting a fire last week. Did I get a photo?  No! I want pictures! Please send  me your pictures!
Anchors Away= Better Sleep at Night
New 200 Lb weight and heavy chain by jet dock
Spring is the time of the year that neighbors are thinking about getting out on the water.  Shortly after that thought pops into our head we start wondering how reliable our mooring buoys are, and will our boat float away in some back eddy if we don't repair or replace our anchoring system.  Well, I've been going through this process for the last five years now and have finally decided that something needed to be done with my anchor. After all I know first hand of the condition of most of our anchors since I actually go down and look at them!  Because of this I am acutely aware that my anchor is the worst one on the Beach!  That is going to change this year because I am about to sink a  new

anchor weight along with chain.  I will soon be sleeping better at night knowing that my boat and dock will not be the one that goes floating off in some back eddy this year. Nope, not this beach bum!

2012 received a downright "cold" reception, figuratively speaking, at Point Richmond Beach with another gathering of polar bears and fans of polar bears.  A total of 65 people showed up for what is estimated to be the 10th annual event at this location.  Approximately 21 swimmers entered the water measured at 45 degree F earlier in the day. The swim began at 11AM to take advantage of the benefit of the high tide.  One of the attendees, a retired psychologist anonymously declared all of the swimmers including himself "crazy!" Following the dip swimmers and attendees alike enjoyed several homemade dishes including chilli and cornbread, chicken soup, corn chowder. Several scrumptious desserts were served as well, along with drinks. The favorite warm up drink of the adults was hot buttered rum.  Click on photo to enter..

Christmas Intruder?

Speaking of paddlers, the guy pictured was seen cruising down the shoreline of our fine beach on Christmas morning if you can believe it!  Not only that, but he was laughing and saying Merry Christmas, Mele Kalikimaka or Noel or something along those lines.  Can you imagine that?

Leslie Joins the ranks of Stand Up Paddlers!

Leslie Stand Up Paddling
In what may have been a moment of temporary insanity, our neighbor Leslie  stepped onto a Stand up Paddle board and cruised the beach recently from the other side; the water side.  She didn't even get wet!  Leslie attributes her success to her water aerobics class where she incorporates noodle balancing as a part of the curriculum.
